Employees will be honored at May 8 Retirement and Recognition Reception

A public reception will be held Wednesday, May 8, to honor the Meade School District employees who are retiring, those who have worked 15, 20,30 and 35 years, and those who have been selected as teacher and professional technical support staff of the year.  

 

The buffet reception and program will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the west gym at Sturgis Brown High School.  This free event, sponsored by the Meade School Board, is open to the public.  Those attending must make reservations by calling the superintendent's office at 347-2523, ext. 1 by Wednesday, May 1.

 

Honorees include the following, all of whom will be retiring at the end of the current school year:  Marilyn Trudeau, Sturgis Elementary food service worker; Roxanna Cooper, Whitewood Elementary paraprofessional; Debra Meadows, Enning/Union Center School teacher; Ann Kling, Whitewood Elementary teacher; Sally Dodge, Sturgis Williams Middle School teacher; Jon Swan, Sturgis Brown High School teacher; Ann Nonnast, Sturgis Williams Middle School principal, and Bev Rosenboom, Whitewood Elementary/Rural principal.

 

Recognized for 35 years of service are Phyllis Erfman, Sturgis Elementary teacher and Marjorie Small, Piedmont Valley Elementary teacher.

 

Staff members with 30 years of service include Gary Nelson, elementary/middle school band director and Kimberly Roberts, Sturgis Elementary special education teacher.

 

Twenty-year honorees include Jone Enright, rural school custodian; Marnie Colhoff, Piedmont Valley Elementary teacher; Anne Rochelle, Whitewood Elementary teacher; Kristin Wheaton, Sturgis Brown High School teacher; Debra Wilburn, assistant director of Special Education.

 

Those recognized for 15 years of service Cora Atkinson, Piedmont Valley Elementary CAPABLE Kids coordinator; Carla Evans, Sturgis Brown High School food service worker; Sally Dodge, Sturgis Williams Middle School teacher; Ethan Dschaak, Piedmont Valley Elementary principal; Ginger Johnson, district-wide social worker; Stephanie Kaufman, Sturgis Brown High School teacher; Heidi Kraft, Piedmont Valley Elementary counselor; Jill Meirose, administrative assistant for the Superintendent's Office; Kristi Ortiz, Sturgis Elementary counselor; Vincent Schmaltz, Sturgis Brown High School teacher; Missy Urbaniak, Atall teacher, and Joan Wilson, Piedmont Valley Elementary library paraprofessional.

 

The other honorees include Teacher of the Year for 2019, Josh Wilson, Stagebarn Middle School teacher.  Professional Technical Support Staff of the Year is Holly Kopplin, Sturgis Brown High School activities administrative assistant. 

 

Also honored will be building/department level nominees for Teacher of the Year: Twyla Barden, Sturgis Brown High School teacher; Beth Johnson, Sturgis Williams Middle School teacher; Casey Kieffer, Piedmont Valley Elementary teacher; and Julie Witcraft, Sturgis Elementary teacher.

 

The building/department level nominees for Professional Technical Support Staff of the Year are Bruce Abrams, Stagebarn Middle School custodian; Cathy Nissen, Piedmont Valley Elementary custodian; Ginger Smith, Sturgis Elementary library paraprofessional; and Danielle Sperling, Sturgis Intermediate paraprofessional.
