The Meade School District serves the county and communities of Sturgis, Piedmont, Summerset, Whitewood, Atall, Hereford, Elm Springs, Union Center, Enning, and Opal, with Sturgis being home to the district and having a population of over 7,000 people.
In the city of Sturgis, you will find Sturgis Elementary, Sturgis Williams Middle School, and Sturgis Brown High School. Located in the beautiful Black Hills in western South Dakota, Sturgis sits along Interstate 90 and Highway 34 and is surrounded by amazing sites to see. Sturgis has a thriving arts scene, many community events including agriculture events, kid-friendly events, downtown rallies, and so much more. Just outside Sturgis is Bear Butte State Park with a lake, hiking, and camping. Find more information at the Sturgis Chamber website.
The Summerset and Piedmont area are home to Piedmont Valley Elementary and Stagebarn Middle School. Piedmont and Summerset are located along 1-90 in between Sturgis and Rapid City.
The city of Whitewood is also located within the Meade School District, where Whitewood Elementary is located. Whitewood is a small, quiet town in between Sturgis and Spearfish along 1-90.
The district also has 5 rural schools that are located in the eastern plains of Meade County. The communities of Atall, Elm Springs, Hereford, Opal, and Union Center each have a school with grade levels Kindergarten through 8th grade.
Meade School District is positioned in a central location near Rapid City, which is the largest city in western South Dakota. Also in the area, you will find Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Crazy Horse Memorial, Badlands National Park, Devils Tower National Monument and many hiking/biking trails, lakes for fishing and boating, winter sports, and many other tourist towns with events, shops, and activities.
Meade School District is more than an educational institution. We have a strong ranching history combined with business growth, tourism and Fort Meade VA that provides a variety of employment opportunities. Meade 46-1 is also experiencing population growth within communities along the I-90 corridor (Sturgis, Whitewood, Piedmont and Summerset).
