The Sturgis Brown High School Construction Trades class taught by Marco Marolt, recently hosted business partners from the Construction Trades Workforce Connections (CTWC), of the Black Hills. Business representatives shared construction trades career information and employment opportunities. SBHS students showcased the work completed on the chicken coops they are building and had the opportunity to test their skills on the backhoe and excavator simulator. Additionally, the CTWC donated concrete tools, shovels, electrical boxes and wires, and other materials to the Construction Trades program at SBHS. Area businesses representing the CTWC included Scull Construction, South Dakota PHCC, Complete Contracting Solutions, Dean Kurtz Construction, Bierschbach Equipment and Supply Kilowatt Electric, Western Construction, Inc.,, Midwestern Mechanical, Western States Fire Protection Company, Heavy Constructors, Inc., Black Hills Home Builders Association, Associated General Contractors of South Dakota, and Black Hills Federal Credit Union.
On Thursday, May 2, 2024, the Construction Trades class had the opportunity to tour the construction site at SBHS. The students were able to observe the setting of the HVAC system by an 80-foot crane. They also toured the addition and learned about all of the different trades involved in the building of the new lunchroom/kitchen.
