SBHS Counselor, Dadra Avery was recently awarded the 2025 Orv Schmieding Award by the South Dakota School Counselor Association. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding service to the area of school counseling over an extended period of time. This is the top award determined by the SDSCA Award Committee.
This award is the top award and highest honor given by this association. It is to recognize excellence and outstanding service in this field. To even be considered for the award, there have to be at least two nominations, and they must provide evidence that speaks to the character and nature of the recipient. Within this consideration, they look at length of service, contributions both professionally and personally, and local/community involvement.
The winner of this award has gone above and beyond advocating for students, supporting staff, and mentoring those coming up in the field. They have held leadership positions within both the community and field that prove their outstanding contributions. This person truly cares about students and sets an amazing standard and example for those in their field. It is an honor to present this award to Dadra Avery.
