Sturgis Brown students attended the Scrub Camps, also known as "South Dakota Healthcare Career Camps,. The Scrubs Camp brings educational programs aimed at high school students who are interested in exploring healthcare careers. These camp provided participants with an opportunity to learn about various healthcare professions, gain hands-on experience, and interact with healthcare professionals. Students engaged in practical experiences such as observing medical procedures, practicing basic medical skills, and learning about healthcare technologies.
SBHS students attended the iNSPiRE BY Omnitech Event at the South Dakota School of Mines on April 11. The event allows 8th-12th grade girls the opportunity to participate in STEM workshops and talk with local professionals. Attendees learned about college and career path in high-tech companies.
The Meade School Board members approved to amend the 2023-24 academic calendar at the April 8 board meeting, resulting in the last day for students being scheduled for TUESDAY, MAY 21, with a 2-hour early dismissal!!
The Meade School District School Board cordially invites the public to the Staff Retirement & Recognition Reception to honor the Meade School District 2023-24 employees who are retiring, those who have worked 15, 20, 30, 35, 40 years and those who have been selected as teacher and professional-technical support staff of the year.
This year the banquet will be held the morning of Wednesday, May 22 at 8:00 am in the West Gym at Sturgis Brown High School. A breakfast bar will be served by our very own Lori Jeffery-Kirk!

The Art Club would like to formally invite you to see some of the SBHS Art Club students' work. They have been working all school year on military themed ceiling tiles. The tiles are then auctioned off this Thursday, April 11th at 6:00 PM at the Sturgis Vets Club. Proceeds benefit the Art Club and an upcoming trip to Central Europe. Please join us in supporting the amazing work these students have put in and also the local American Legion. The Legion will be serving all you can eat spaghetti from 5-7:00 PM. The auction begins at 6:00 PM. Hope to see you all there!

Another Recognition Assembly was held on Wednesday, April 3 to celebrate our staff and students and their successes. We believe having our recognition assemblies is a great way to show our appreciation to our students, advisors and coaches for all of their hard work. We also want to promote a positive culture; it creates a sense of pride when you are recognized and cheered on by your peers. GO SCOOPERS!!!

Midwestern Mechanical Inc. held a Construction Career Fair for students from area high schools. Mr. Marolt's CTE Intro to Residential Construction attended the event. The fair allowed students to explore careers in construction and HVAC. Guest speakers talked about career opportunities and gave demonstrations on 3-D building modeling and construction blueprints.
Sturgis Brown High School held an area FFA Career Development Event on Wednesday, March 27. Many area schools participated in the contest.
Through Career and Leadership Development Events, participating FFA members develop critical thinking skills, effective decision-making, foster teamwork and promote communication while recognizing the value of ethical competition and individual achievement.

The Meade School District 46-1 will have a 2 hour late start tomorrow Monday, March 25. Busses will be running two hours later. This includes Sturgis Brown High School, Sturgis Williams Middle School, Sturgis Elementary, Piedmont Valley Elementary, Stagebarn Middle School, Whitewood Elementary School, Atall, Elm Springs, Hereford, Opal and Central Meade Co School
CONGRATULATIONS to the following FFA students who participated in the Career Development Event in Newell.
-Brenna Whitford placed 4th in Vet Science
-Gage Whitehead, Barrett Patterson, and George Hamer placed 1st, 3rd, and 4th in Natural Resources and won the team event.
-Emily Reedy placed 2nd in Milk Quality
-Bennett Gordon placed 2nd individually in Livestock Evaluation and the team won the event.
-Jora Schaeffer, Wraylee Brown, and Hayden Larson placed 2nd, 6th, and 9th in Food Science and the team placed 2nd overall.
-Allison Ogden placed 1st in Ag Business.
-Ellie Storm placed 1st in Range Plant ID. Levi Meirose, Jackson Cammack, and Ben Storm placed 7th, 8th, and 9th and the team won the event overall.
SBHS Senior Amelia Knutson and Junior Bennett Gordon, served as House Pages during the February & March legislative session in Pierre. Amelia served, February 20-March 1, with Representative Kirk Chaffee and Bennett served, March 3-7, 2024, with Representative Mary Fitzgerald.
Each legislative session, high school students from across South Dakota have an opportunity for a firsthand look at the legislative process by serving as pages for the South Dakota Legislature. Pages are appointed to serve in the House of Representatives or the Senate for four to nine days during one of the five term periods.
CONGRATULATIONS to Kaitlyn Brown and Abigale Enninga for placing 2nd in the Cake Decorating portion of the ProStart Invitational. Instructor Mica Sulzbach-Bataille, Kaitlyn Brown, Abigale Enninga, and alternate Gabriella Bataille attented the Annual SD ProStart Invitational in Pierre on Tuesday, March 12.
